The Sweetness of Freedom: Part 4

The Remedy for Legalism

Galatians 2:11-21

Sunday, April 29, 2018

In Galatians 2:11-21 we get a glimpse at a conflict between Peter and Paul. Paul confronts Peter “to his face” because he had reverted back to some legalistic ways with the Gentiles in Antioch that was not “in step with the Gospel”. The threat of legalism in the Church is a constant danger. We must be reminded regularly that our justification is by faith alone in Christ alone by God’s grace alone. Paul declares that he has been crucified with Christ, he is dead and now Christ lives in him. Therefore all credit for our salvation (and sanctification) and all condemnation for our sin belong to and has been paid by Jesus, not us!
