In Exodus 20 God gives his people commands for how they are to live as his people in the Promised Land. The Ten Commandments first appear here in Exodus 20, not as commands for people to obey to receive God’s favor and salvation, but BECAUSE of him already giving them his grace, favor, and salvation. It’s good to remember that God’s commands are for our good. When God says “Don’t…”, what he’s really saying is “Don’t hurt yourself…” If you’ve trusted Jesus and become God’s child, you are faced with a moment-to-moment choice of obedience. Choose to obey, choose blessing. Choose to sin, choose to suffer. This week we give an overview of the 10 Commandments (just the first of 10 of 613 commands God gives Israel).
