Sola Scriptura affirms that the Scriptures, not the institutional church, are the primary authority by which humanity must live and against which truth and error must be judged. “Where stands it written?” was a common response of the Free Church toward teaching and instruction that was based on traditions of men rather than Scripture. 2 Peter 1:16-21 is a clear passage on the authority and nature of Scripture. We should pay attention to God’s Word, it’s not from man, but breathed out by God himself! We must believe it in all that it teaches, obey it in all it requires, and trust it in all that it promises!
